At SnackConscious, we strongly believe actions speak louder than words. We are not just looking to do well, it is our mission to do good. We are committing 1% of gross sales to directly support organizations serving our most vulnerable and underprivileged populations.
Our ONE PERCENT FOR PEOPLE program will focus on funding initiatives that support BIPOC, LGBTQ, mental health, homelessness and criminal justice reform.
In March, we donated tens of thousands of SnackBombs to frontline health
workers fighting Covid-19. Although we are a Canadian company that has not yet reached the U.S. market, New York City was at the epicenter of Covid-19 and we knew we had to do something. We felt a social responsibility to help in the best way we know we can: donate snacks that provide mental and physical energy. The doctors, nurses and health workers were overworked, overtired and skipping meals as they risked their lives on the frontlines of the pandemic. We partnered with Founders Give to send SnackBombs, for free, to hospitals in NYC. Additionally, we launched a campaign on social media for people to nominate frontline health workers and hospital units for us to send snack care packages. We were able to reach this campaign across Canada.
In June, we donated over $10,000 to BIPOC focused organizations. Here's where our money went:
Defy Ventures is a nonprofit organization with a very meaningful agenda that addresses the social problems of mass incarceration, recidivism, and related issues by providing well-being, entrepreneurship, employment, and personal development training programs to individuals with criminal histories.
The Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto (NWRCT) is a community-based organization dedicated to providing resources and support to urban Indigenous women and their families. Their work is incredibly important, meaningful and creates real impact.
Black Lives Matter is a global organization whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities. BLM is fighting for a world where Black lives are no longer systematically targeted for demise.
The Equal Justice Initiative is a non-profit organization, based in Montgomery, Alabama, that provides legal representation to prisoners who may have been wrongly convicted of crimes, poor prisoners without effective representation, and others who may have been denied a fair trial.
The Sentencing and Parole Project (SPP) is a non-profit organization that prepares enhanced pre-sentence reports (EPSRs) for Black people marginalized by poverty and racial inequality. The reports give judges and parole boards the information they need to make informed sentencing and release decisions. They include recommendations for culturally appropriate programs to assist with rehabilitation.
Campaign Zero is a non-profit organization. The funds donated support the analysis of policing practices across the country, research to identify effective solutions to end police violence, technical assistance to organizers leading police accountability campaigns and the development of model legislation and advocacy to end police violence nationwide.
Color of Change is the nation’s largest online racial justice organization that leads campaigns to build real power for Black communities. Color of Change challenges injustice, holds corporate and political leaders accountable, commissions game-changing research on systems of inequality, and advance solutions for racial justice.
In September, we’re donating SnackBombs to organizations fighting homelessness to ensure people who need nutrient dense food the most actually have access to it. Red Door Family Shelter is a non-profit registered charity serving the Greater Toronto Area that we will be donating healthy snacks to. Red Door operates a family shelter and a VAW (Violence Against Women) shelter and provides emergency shelter and support for women and children affected by domestic abuse, families experiencing a housing crisis, and refugee claimants with nowhere else to turn. SnackBombs are shelf-stable and filled with vitamins and minerals that these women and children don't often have the privilege of eating.
We promise to continue to be active, vocal and transparent on our mission to do good. ONE PERCENT FOR PEOPLE is our commitment to to directly support organizations serving our most vulnerable and underprivileged populations.
